Too many things have lined up to not go with this belief. This weekend a bunch of strange events occurred and none of it was even related to any major events in the world. We did a quick poll on our running joke, “Questions for Plato”, where we asked if the world we live in was a simulation or not. It ended up being a rough 50/50 split down the middle. We’re on the “yes it is a simulation” side of the equation now. It certainly sounds like witchcraft, but we’re not talking about the horoscope lies that everyone seems to believe these days (praying that they have “astrology on their side”). This is going to be much more high-level, a rare move on this side of the web, as most philosophy is just nerd porn.
Simulation: Living in a simulation implies that we don’t have free will. Instead we’ve been programmed to operate a certain way through life. If you believe that you have free will, try to do something that is horribly bad for you (in your opinion). It won’t work. Similarly, in what appears to be a contradiction, you could find errors within any particular simulation. Simulations are governed by rules so if you can find the tweaks that others are not aware of it means you’ll get ahead in this programmed game. Naturally, this means you have to be lucky enough to realize you’re in a simulation to game the system.
That’s more than enough of the insane high level stuff for now. Instead we’ll turn to the facts. The world operates based on a bunch of rules. If you jump out of a plane with no parachute onto cement, you are going to die. If you lift heavy weights your muscles grow in proportion to the stress it is able to handle (pre-determined by genetics). If you run fast, your heart rate goes up. We can go on and on about all the rules we have. The “naysayers” will then say “but we haven’t figured out how to solve XYZ yet”. This doesn’t work logically since the absence of a solution does not disprove the rule. In fact, all it means is that we haven’t figured out the “why” yet. The “why” is being figured out at lightning speed.
Figuring Out the Next Why: Look at anything from quants for stock markets to sports betting etc. There are no arguments anymore. Artificial intelligence and computing power are better predictors of human behavior than humans. Press releases of earnings come out and the algorithm will know if the stock is going up or down based on the release. It will also scrape conference calls and figure out if the stock will move up or down during the conference call. In fact, if you read interviews of successful quant funds they will publicly state that a lot of their signals do not make “logical sense”. Meaning? The machine simply learned that if XYZ is used the stock will go up or down, even if it has nothing to do with the fundamentals of the Company.
What is the point here, the point is that humans are incredibly predictable and we are simply learning how to perfect that science. Currently we use probabilities which are going to become more accurate… slowly but surely. We can already predict a person’s sexual orientation, their risk of developing a particular disease and more.
Thinking further, we see an extremely clear business model where older people are able to catfish as being attractive men/women in V-logs. We’ve gotten to a point where physical images are so fake that if you meet the Instagram star/model in person… they rarely look like their photos. Their general body/face/structure was simply the “best fit” for the current set of photoshop tools.
This “new business model” has already happened at a low scale with CGI images. Who would pay $1000 for a model photo shoot, when a $100 picture of a fake model is proven to be more attractive? *No one*. This is an area that has already been disrupted and if you’ve missed it, you haven’t been looking hard enough at those original “photos”.
Hopefully you’re at least partially convinced at this point, we’re now able to pinpoint how humans will react to information with increased accuracy (stock market example) and we’re able to pinpoint what exactly is the “most attractive”. Over time, specialization will take over these industries. One image will be used to sell shoes, another when attempting to sell high-end cars, another when selling software products etc. When we say “image” we’re referring to everything from the person selling it to the design of the website to the sales memo. We’d say it’s essentially guaranteed.
Put These Two Together: Since rules govern the entire world and on top of that we’re simply scaling up the ability to read how humans interact, it’s a matter of time before everyone is predictable. This also explains why successful people and unsuccessful people will rarely ever connect or get along. They don’t understand how the “wiring” works. More spiritual people will call this a “vibe” or a “feeling” when it’s simply how their hardware is running. Those in touch with their own hardware know what they are projecting out from month to month, sometimes its high energy amped up working on a grand idea (most common with successful people age 18-25) or it could be a relaxed mode as they contemplate a move (typical for people in their 30s). The “vibe” or “energy” (insert any other hipster explanation), is the heat emitted from the computer hardware that you have.
Clear Explanation of the World: If we are living in a simulation it actually makes a lot of the things we see make logical sense. The people who are “low consciousness” just don’t have the hardware to understand the data being thrown at them. Think of trying to run a high end software program on one of the very first personal computers. It wouldn’t make sense and the interpretation of the data would be wildly inaccurate and more importantly irrelevant. If you load up a file with the wrong program, the file has no value and just looks like a bunch of spaghetti thrown against the wall.
This would also explain the tendency to “find” people on your general wavelength. Everyone has a different wavelength and will interpret you a bit differently. But. Why is it that unlucky people always get head nods when they explain that they are unlucky. Also. Luckier people tend to always have things fall into their lap at the right time because they are emitting the right “wavelengths” to the world. This is much more likely to be by design.
This also explains why the same message can get interpreted entirely differently. If you want to have fun with this, make up a random quote and tie it to different people. The person who said it will determine their interpretation of the quote since individuals latch onto an anchor (which is always the person). Similarly, since sound and vision quality differ from computer program to computer program (person to person), the message will always be different. This also explains why music preference can be polarizing.
Thinking this through, if we’re in a simulation then we should see a non-linear improvement in predictability. This is undeniably the case today. Every ten years or so, the amount of things we know to be true changes exponentially and many of the world’s “mysteries” are solved. This will continue to occur.
Practical Use of This: Not much to say from a practical standpoint. Since the poll we sent out got 50/50 results, this means that half the people will laugh and say “what is this nonsense” while the other half will say “this makes some logical sense”. Any time you have polarizing events like this it isn’t worth it to have a discussion since it would be similar to discussing “politics”, hint, no one has ever sat down with a liberal/conservative and convinced them to switch over.
Concluding Remarks: Taking a step back, some of the smartest people in the world (Elon Musk being the most public example) believe that we are in a simulation. In addition, many brilliant mathematicians have also made this argument in the past. People with low IQs and low success are usually the ones to argue against it the most (this also pushes us towards belief in the simulation hypothesis). There is no way to prove that we’re in a simulation, so if we’re wrong that’s perfectly fine. That said, when we look at how the world operates it’s clear that we’re moving closer and closer to predicting all human behavior (only possible if we’re pre-programmed and events are not truly random).

This is a pretty interesting article that seems to make some sense.
A big clue in to it being a simulation is quarks (elementary particles that make up atoms) – they resemble the bits of a computer, finite and discrete.
Your genes (software), and everything else is just a combination of quarks, just like how everything on a computer is a combination of bits.
I think we could reasonably say religion was a traditional attempt to explain the simulation, with the classic religious founder (IE Jesus, the buddha, etc) being the ones who understood it best. We now just have the quantative power to actually put numbers to much of the predictive knowledge that was once reserved for intuition.
I’ve sort of been in the “maybe but who cares” camp for a while, but this is a good argument for why to care about the topic, so thanks for this.
For another take on why to care, from this weekend:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/10/opinion/sunday/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation-lets-not-find-out.html
Scott Adams’ book “Win Bigly” talks a bit about this – the most interesting argument for the “simulation” theory to me is how we perceive reality. It’s amazing how differently two people can remember the SAME event, to the point that you start to wonder if reality is objective at all. Adams also talks about how most people’s memories of childhood are mostly fabricated – your mind just creates a good bit of it as background information. It’s also fascinating how closely our “reality” mirrors the way that an open-world video game will render objects ONLY when it knows you’re looking at them.
Speaking of delusional, I had a question about a job offer I just got that I want your advice on —
Kidding.
Not disputing the “no free will” statement but iq is not the only variable at stake here. For many people (including “smart” ones), subconscious patterns from childhood or just being emotionally tramatized by an event start affecting their life and skewing the way they interpret reality. Take Tolstoy (who experienced emotional abandonment as a kid and had troubles later in his marriage because the abandonment had made him a narcissist) or Unabomber as examples.
“It’s also fascinating how closely our “reality” mirrors the way that an open-world video game will render objects ONLY when it knows you’re looking at them.”
I think this is the fun part of life and I wished they would have gone into detail about the practical use of this knowledge as it is completely related to acquiring wealth.
When we focus (spend time) on people and things who are unlucky or impoverished or that only consume our time, than we will only “see” more opportunities to become unlucky and impoverished spend money. There is no way around this and thus the opposite is true. When we spend time solving problems we only see more ways to do so which will eventually create wealth.
Maybe people are becoming more predictable because stupidity is outbreeding intelligence.
After playing poker professionally for a few years, it changed me in the way I looked at everything. Everything was odds, patterns and governed by concrete rules, with, of course, some variance.
There are so many things that ‘feel’ like they are governed in a predictable or defined way. Like we are in a very complex game with algorithms to define everything.
I am also a believer of the law of attraction from a mechanical perspective. You just direct your brain with thoughts repeatedly and then it will automatically do the actions or figure out the process to get the result if you let it and get out of your way.
What people call flow, is I just believe getting out of the way of your brain and it doing what you have programmed it to do. Resistance or procrastination is just when you hold two conflicting programs or instructions.
I am starting to believe in sinchronicity – the phenomena where chain of unrelated events following one another creates meaningfull and logical sequence. I had played poker and studied game theory and mathematical side of it also – can definitely agree that it changed my view of the world – you just start to apply it in real life.
We can never prove that reality is real. You can try to measure it, but you’ll never truly know if you’re not just dreaming yourself measuring dreamstuff, no matter how precise the instrument.
Nice post 🙂
I think it’s a simulation, but on a scale that we in this dimension cannot fully perceive. It is very clear to me that we can change our own programs and sub routines with diligent work, and that older programs are some of the most difficult to replace.
There are many reasons so many people are poor, lazy, fearful, dishonest, and every other thing, but the big one to me is that someone WANTS it this way, and is getting it, through control of the initial programming when we “log in” to the game.
Add onto this: immediate suppression of INTENDED abilities through c-sections, cord cutting and injections of metals and weed killer within 5 minutes, feeding them total fkn garbage for years and keeping people in a state of fear…
It’s no surprise that so many cannot break free. They call us crazy, tell us we need foil hats, avoid us… all because they do not SEE.
Some of us seem to have some coding that makes us like this. I recall reading the newspaper at 6 (1975) and knowing they were lying. I’ve seen a lot of stuff happen after I had a vision, combined with a “feeling”. Some call it fate, attraction etc.
I think a lot of it is just that the masses have been nerfed at birth, and this makes it hard as fuck to unlock the jedi knight that you were supposed to have access to in the first place.
“There are many reasons so many people are poor, lazy, fearful, dishonest, and every other thing, but the big one to me is that someone WANTS it this way, and is getting it, through control of the initial programming when we “log in” to the game.”
I totally agree with this from my own perspective. I try to stay balanced but when a bout of loneliness fell upon me I began seeking out sanctity in the lowest of people. Those people then introduced me to things that wiped out my income, self-esteem, and physical strength. But I was the one who kept playing that game, answering the phone calls, showing up at the parties, purchasing the……….. It felt good at the time, but it didn’t feel right. I wonder does it feel right to those people I am now avoiding?
“The people who are “low consciousness” just don’t have the hardware to understand the data being thrown at them. Think of trying to run a high end software program on one of the very first personal computers.”
“Low consciousness” people don’t have the hardware to run “anti-virus” software, which is why the media and other similar bodies can install “viruses” on their “hard-drive” so easily! (AKA: program them to think/act a certain way)
Interesting…Your main man Albert Ellis also throughout much of his work hinted at the illusion of control
Yep, if you read Felix Dennis closely he implies this as well
I completely agree, although your use of words and the ability to describe is much better than mine.
I’ve more or less checked out. Made my money and now live a life where most people my age cannot fathom because of their programming.
Makes for a fun life, but boy is it interesting when you go out and people ask about what you did this week. You tell them…and they just can’t wrap there head around it!
We live in an evolving consciousness simulation. We are consciousness. We have avatars (your body) to play in this simulation. The only purpose is to use our free will to grow our and the larger consciousness systems quality of consciousness. What else would a consciousness seek to do by creating such a simulation but to evolve. There would be no point to it if we did not have free will. Read Tom Campbells book My Big TOE (theory of everything) to see the full explanation.
Thanks for recommending, it is a great book trilogy. I’m only a quarter into it as I had very little time but the book taught me to take the expansive evolving mindset and I see almost no point in sitting around ever as it just results in de-evolution and poorer results. The stuff about getting rid of your fears basically took my social life to another level (from being a very awkward and scared person to being slightly below average in a 2month period I’m not exaggerating) but I DID combine it with another book about psychology. Anyways, just wanted to give a biggest thank you for sharing the info!
Everything in existence is just pure energy in a sense. The smallest unit is an atom (let’s forget about subatomic particles for now) which is made up of a tiny nucleus, a proton and an electron.
What we perceive to be solid is just a dense manifestation/collection of energy. We perceive and experience the world through our five senses. But we are not those five senses, we are the observer behind it all. (Quick thought experiment, what if by a freak accident all five of your senses are gone, would you still be there?) In a sense, every moment is just pure energy flowing through us as the soul perceives it through the five senses.
The problem starts when we start to identify with the senses or the thoughts and emotions that are emit from that through our desire/preference/attachment. That’s the delusion (Maya) yogis refer to. I think that’s what the current generation refers to as a simulation. The “reality” we experience is nothing but an inner journey of the soul. The only “real” thing is the real “You”, the Soul/Observer/Atman.
There are some patterns or ‘principles’ (ask Ray Dalio or Buffet) underlying how society operates. The winners just understand these faster and more thoroughly.
This is a low quality post. Numerology tier.
Don’t let the money get to your head.
That’s funny because we expected these negative comments
We don’t believe in numerology
I didn’t even want to make this comment because it sounds like hating. I am really thankful for everything on this site. Just didn’t feel like this post was fully fleshed out like most of the other posts on this site.
No problem
I think it’s a funny post. Obviously trolling their readers. Regular people believe shit like this because they are too dumb and lazy to improve themselves.
You cannot have a money making article every week without giving too much away. There has to be some filler. I understand this.
It seems like there is a general return to religion in the West. Its interesting to see the same people reject the notion of God, and turn to the simulation explanation.
Especially because in classical theology, God is not this floating disembodied consciousness, rather a creator outside of the bounds of his creation (time and space).
This lines up with the “simulation” though exercise. There needs to be something that created the simulation.
This is most likely a reaction to the extreme material abundance and the problems going with it, people need a way to cope outside of buying things.
IQ – Communication Range … Low IQs and High IQs dont get along. Communication is both oral and physical (vibration) Higher IQ .. Higher Wealth Corrrelation. If life is a simulation then your IQ is selected and life trajectory mapped out to some extent
Lol at this post. Regarding the predictability of humans, the “simulation” you are looking for is Darwinian Evolution, a selection process that has ran through millions (or billions) of iterations producing complex life forms.
Our brain has been an outgrowth of this process and the way we think (and act) has been shaped by the selection pressures driving that process.
Evolutionary psychology is a field of research that has broke ground relatively recently and attempts to understand and explain this phenomenon. See Evolutionary Psychology: The New Science of the Mind by David Buss
To give an example, recent research supports that we have a tracking mechanism in our brain for what is called the “Genetic Relatedness Coefficient” measuring the expected amount of genes we share with some other person (eg relative). This coefficient predicts the existence and degree of conflicts that arise between siblings and parents for allocation of resources within the family. It also explains why moms care more for their children on average (men were never 100% the child is theirs in evolutionary past)
30mg 5-MeO-DMT HCL insufflated is probably a good litmus test.
I agree but this is a Numerology tier post lmao
Are you also going to talk about astral life paths? Is Efficiency 2 going to include a 10 year horoscope?
hahahaha
For the millionth time don’t believe in numerology
Feel free to laugh you’re dismissing the smartest people in the world
One to disagree but to dismiss is laughably crazy
I think you guys are conflating two separate things: On the one hand you are now acutely aware of how the world, including humans, is governed by certain laws and thus can in principle be modelled accurately to a t, and how all future outcomes can be computed (in principle). However isn’t that equivalent to just saying that the world behaves deterministically? You are conflating this with “being in a simulation” which is not at all implied.
A “smart” person without awareness of his subconscious is like a ferrari going in the wrong direction during a race. The fact that Carl Jung predicted these theories of “logic” long ago should be an indication that something is up.
I never understood your jabs at the “regular” person or this absolute conviction of dichotomy between “successful” and “unsuccesful” people but now I see that you believe you have the world “figured out” with a few dogmatic statements because you see repeating patterns in the world. Therefore, you don’t believe any other value system can exist besides physical success and pleasure in the physical world, so we should maximize that and that’s the best we can expect – anyone pursuing another goal is just stupid and mislead.
However, this “ultra rationality” simply turns a blind eye at other things where it cannot penetrate: like symbols, subjective experience, spiritual experience. You chalk it up to “chemicals in the brain” but really you’re experiencing something where the mind and logic cannot go. Again, our “logic” is limited by our subconscious mind, and experience (meaning it is only as good as the amount of knowledge we have accumulated – it’s always weaker than and depends on the outer world)
I suggest reading introductory works of Jung to realize that god or spirituality didn’t disappear and they are real because they can be experienced but they have to be rediscovered and integrated into our minds in a new way as we learn scientific truths and our logic cannot support the old explanation anymore. An example would be when science progressed and we realized there is no outer god and that spiritual experiences come from our subconscious. That didn’t make them any more fake though.
Otherwise, you’re choosing to simply ignore a part of human experience and follow abstract ideas in your head.
To end, I hope I managed to get my ideas across, as I’m not a native speaker and this topic is difficult to explain. As Jung explained it – at first it’s like being in a tree, all you see is leaves, but when you learn more you rise above it and can see the whole tree.
You can do better than this WSPs. Don’t try to convince yourself that your genetics are the sole reason for your success – luck (first worlder, finance at the right time in history, etc.) played out as well.
This entire post full of circular logic fallacies.
Religion has already attempted to answer the “simulation” theory (i.e. God created this “simulation” and then granted free will to human beings – also “faith”).
Who cares if this universe is a simulation? Who created the the folks that created the simulation?
Oh ya, its turtles all the way down lol. This logical fallacy obliterates this post.
If we have free will – great.
If we don’t, at least humans have the illusion of free will.
I just look at money, inflation and income. why does things have to be more expensive than they were 10 years ago. why is basic necessities gone up so fast while something like wages have become so stagnant? why is there such an adverse reaction to an universal basic income. why exactly does the national debt matter if whoever runs the money system keeps printing money. heck why do we even have or need to have recessions? couldn’t have national banks done what the did the last 10 years and pump $$$ into the economy through banks. and if the government could give billions to bailout the banks, why couldn’t a ubi work? the $$$ isn’t really real. its value is.just what you exchange for it.
why has marriage been deemed so bad? why did the state need to get involved in legal marriage in the 1st place?
This stuff is super depressing to process if you’re still in debt, in my experience. It gets a whole lot better when you realize the rules to the game and how it’s not so bad to live in this simulation, in fact it’s beautiful. It actually gave me the motivation to get rich at all. God is great and wants smart and strong willed people to be rich.
Hello,
This should go under your FAQ post or general feedback, but I was unable to comment under that post, so apologies.
1. According to author David Deida, you should always you should always reach for your highest god, or learn from the highest source or wisdom, something like that. I’m butchering this, but you get the idea. So I’m curious who is your highest god, who is your most praised author, what’s your deepest life philosophy you can turn to. According to the Life Related Products section of your Approved Products page, it is the ancient Greek Stoic philosophers to you. And that’s it. But perhaps, you may want to elaborate a little more on that.
As a side note to this question, what’s your take on Gary Vaynerchuk? He is a relatively simple guy (he claims he has written more books that he has read) with a distinctively different life advice to yours. Which also happens to resonates with quote a few folks.
2. Previously I’ve found a blog post outlining all the funny Wall Street math including the rule of 72 and and more but I can’t find that comprehensive blog post on the site now. I wanted to show it to some friends.
3. Your site is aimed at a US audience more or less. I wonder if you have written a blog post how to apply your advice to other countries as well. Taking to account among other things that not everyone’s first language is English, when considering the elaborate language of online sales but this is probably the most minor issue regarding the big picture.
4. On a practical note, you advice this piece of hard shell, wheeled carry on bag for easy international travel. Might handle your luggage for a day or two. You may want to check out the website OneBag.com by Doug Dyment. He suggest carry on bags in the business, lifestyle, and dual purpose categories – but all of them soft-sided and without wheels. Might as well handle your luggage for a week, or considering a weekly laundry schedule, forever.
5. The designer in me asks why don’t you offer your ebooks in the more convenient EPUB and MOBI formats more suited to mobile devices including ebook readers? Generating them would probably require two clicks instead of just one in your publishing software. Reading a whole book on a computer screen sucks.
6. The sales guy in me is perplexed why haven’t you made a podcast interview with one willing and prominent YouTuber as of yet. YouTube is the platform to reach the next generation – the generation you want to reach. You want to stay anonymous, I get that. Of course you can still do the interview that way, that shouldn’t be a problem.
That’s it for now, thanks in advance! I’m not even touching the can of worms that is your health and nutrition advice, that may be for another day. 🙂
Not your best post.
The “simulation theory” is just an intelligent design theory for atheists.
The very fact that people are unpredictable emotional creatures almost singlehandedly disproves the simulation hypothesis.
What spiritual people call “vibes” is much more than the amount of heat being produced by one’s “brain hardware”.
And then the closer “we can’t actually prove it, and if we’re wrong we don’t care”.
Poor quality article, 1/10 wouldn’t recommend.
Here’s a thought (I encourage anyone to read this carefully before lashing out):
This article, and many others, suggests that patterns and more or less observable rules in the universe indicate that we live in a simulation.
In many places of the world, this same exact reasoning leads people to believe that there is a greater being who designed this universe. Have you heard this line of thought before? That’s right, it’s the eternal discussion of whether there is a god or not.
We have just replaced god with “someone who programmed the simulation”. But isn’t a simulation designer necessarily a “god” as well – at least a god to the people living in the simulation?
To me this whole discussion seems exactly like the religious debate that has been going on for all human history, the image of god has just changed.
I am not taking sides here, it is simply interesting to observe this.
Hmm.
This is an interesting one. Discussed the simulation thesis with my business partner the other day. Fibonacci sequences / golden ratio pattern occurs too often in nature to be random… Many behaviour patterns of humans seem to be constant across history.
This is a fun topic that has limited utility, indeed like politics…having said that, mastering influencing (clearly a skill that can be taught), or risk taking in finance (Turtle project) etc, there are patterns there. Once you master them, you move on to the next level. Without a system, it is difficult to be consistent.
Brave article as a larger % of the ”disagree” feel the need to comment (again super predictable).
Won’t the smartest people just become more unpredictable since their edge is understanding other people?
We’re going to turn ourselves into the machines/algo’s we’re creating anyways.
Has anyone from Wall St Playboys read ‘Shadow Men’ by Forensic Psychologist Dr Anthony Napoleon? Dr Napoleon asserts that at least 3 generations of Americans have been indoctrinated to think that there is no such thing as objective reality. Why? Because if people believe there is no objective reality i.e. we are in a simulation – they are all the much easier to brainwash. I don’t know either way but I find it interesting to observe a wave of Americans starting to assert this simulation theory all at roughly the same time in many media formats/sources. Interesting to view from outside of America.
In some religious beliefs they say that God / energy/ intelligence or whatever we can call it, knows perfectly the futur of every person, and since he / it has the absolute science, it makes sense if we approach this subject from a pure statistical / probabilistic way : the more Data about the person you have the more you can predict his behavior/ futur. Facebook / IG and the big data center are getting closer and closer to master the science of predictability. My question is who started this simulation ?
“it’s clear that we’re moving closer and closer to predicting all human behavior (only possible if we’re pre-programmed and events are not truly random)”
This is a really stupid thing to say. Being able to predict human behavior really well has nothing to do with living in a simulation. A simulation could be difficult o predict, or it could be easy to predict. Base reality could be easy to predict or difficult to predict. It’s a combination of the impact of any truly random processes on the outcome you’re predicting (quantum effects decohere at large scales), how much information you have access to when predicting (world could be set up in a way where it’s too hard to access the information you need), the sensitivity to mistakes in your observations (uncertainty principle, but more than that chaotic computation ideas; eg predicting the weather is probably similar to predicting human behavior).
Events in the physical world according to modern physics are truly random. See: collapsing any wave function. Except that at large scales decoherence kicks in and that stops having a strong effect on average.
Probably best to get someone who is strong in physics/math to read this kind of post before putting it up. It’s pretty weak
