Triangle Investing: Stocks, Real Estate and Crypto Currencies (January 8, 2018)

The launch date is set for January 8, 2018. We had a delay due to editing and adding items to the crypto currency section. This will be the last product we launch for at least a year (minimum, probably more) and we’ll open the doors for significantly more Q&As going forward to make sure we answer all questions. Before we go into the good ole’ sales page, we’re going to emphasize one thing three times. Everything in the book is an opinion and not financial advice. Everything in the book is an opinion and not financial advice. Everything in the book is an opinion and not financial advice. The good news is that we explain in detail what we think about the future and how to benefit from it.

Triangle Investing: Stocks, Real Estate and Crypto Currencies

With the world changing rapidly we think these three asset classes will result in the best wealth accumulation. To organize all of our thoughts we have the following sections:

Financial Benchmarks and Overview: In this section we provide a broad overview of how much we think an intelligent individual can be worth by age. This is more of a fun introduction and gives the reader an idea of what we believe is doable without giving up any part of your personal life (still have time to party, have fun and live a free life). We offer three high level strategies: Risk on, Risk Neutral and Risk Averse. By giving away three different ideas, we don’t have to do any sort of specific consulting. Simply decide on your own risk tolerance and you’ll invest in the various asset classes. As usual, we bias towards the positive side. So if you can do better than the numbers we provide, we agree! There are many people who make their first billion dollars before they even turn thirty. Anything is possible. We simply provide a framework for the “ambitious” individual.

Overview of Stocks: The basic dollar cost averaging strategy still works. And. We give away what we own in our actual portfolio (beyond ETFs). We give 1) a basic explanation of why ETFs can cause a large downturn and 2) what we own in our actively managed accounts. The actively managed portfolio is a long-term holding and talks about “where the world is moving”. Some of them have specific stocks we own other parts talk more broadly. This section is essentially tailored for someone in their late 20s or older. If you’re thinking about managing your own money, we assume that you already have a business up and running and a high paying career. Otherwise you should continue with the dollar cost averaging strategy.

To avoid any confusion, unless you’re financially independent, it does not make sense to do anything else beyond ETFs. Why? Well if you are not financially independent, this means you’re not generating enough income. You can scrimp and save and try to generate 5-10% in additional returns but it will not move the needle when compared to creating your own business or growing your career. We focus on the big money first then you can move onto the smaller “fun items” like trying to outperform the market long-term.

Overview of Real Estate: This is the most actionable section. Unlike crypto currencies and stocks, real estate has a blue print so to speak. We give ours away and realize that there are millions of ways to get rich in real estate. In fact, we know people who would laugh at our strategy because it is not aggressive enough. That said, it works if you’re running a couple of online businesses combined with a busy career. If you’re following the strategy in Efficiency (online sales), this strategy is for you since it is scalable and profitable. At the end of the day, people will need a place to live so real estate will not be going away any time in the near-future.

Our strategy is not for people who intend on doing Real Estate full time. The good news is we do explain how real estate investors make a living in the sector as a full time profession. The well known “BRRRR” strategy still works: Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance and Repeat. Our product is not meant for someone in this situation and is meant for people who want to diversify their income without taking on substantial risk. The key word there is “substantial” since all investment vehicles have risk.

Overview of Crypto Currencies: No one will agree with this section. The one thing we can all agree on (at least those that have done their research!) is that it will change the world in ways we cannot imagine. Whether it is called Bitcoin or something else, crypto currencies are here to stay and we should do serious research into the space before the technology is truly understood. We provide our opinions and strategy for investing in the space. We also give out business ideas and ways to participate in the upside without owning a single coin.

We are happy to share the investments we have, while we won’t give away the dollar amount, you’ll find the percent allocated into this sector along with the coins that we currently own. Since this is more of a venture investment (lots of volatility and many moving pieces) we have created a special way to keep up with the space. We don’t think it is right to re-charge every year for the same book so we will have a surprise for those that purchase the product and actually read it! This makes the page count “constantly increase”. You’ll see when you read it!  Note: there is no way we can cover everything (it changes too much and there are too many coins). And. On a positive note. We can give you a good way to start while avoiding a lot of the noise. We will also have more Q&As in 2018.

Overview of Bonds/CDs: Basic stuff here. Since our blog is tailored to younger people trying to become deca-millionaires, we don’t cover it as much. If someone is over the age of 40-50 they already have a different risk tolerance and have a personal view on the amount that should be allocated towards bonds. This is the shortest section since interest rates are low and protecting principal is simply not that interesting.

Portfolio Overview by Age: Here is yet another controversial section, we will outline our own personal investment strategy at this time. Meaning, if we were starting all over again, where would we put our money? We would remind everyone that this is more of a risk on blog. If someone already doesn’t have to work for a living (financially independent and wouldn’t need to work even if there was a 50% market correction), then what is the point of saving money in “CDs”. We just don’t understand that logic and take a different approach.

Putting it All Together: This product will not be a “fun read”. Similar to Efficiency we cut straight to the chase and to the point. We don’t like wasting time and don’t like filler words like 99% of all of the products out there. Having a summary section is helpful to make sure all of the items are understood and can be recalled with a few simple pages (similar to how we structured Efficiency).

2017 Was Amazing and 2018 Will Ideally Be Better!

We don’t even know what to say about 2017. It was so much better than 2016 and yet 2016 was capped off by making a killing on the Trump Presidency. Since we’re positive people, we believe 2018 has the potential to be even better than 2017! There will be a lot of ups and downs and typically we see a small set back every 6 months or so. That said, it has been up and to the right despite all of the volatility. 2017 was about selling assets and freeing up time (hence our product creation), 2018 will require us to go “back into hibernation”. This means we will be hunkering down with new projects (our real work outside of this hobby) to generate more income over the next 12 months.

2018 will also mark the year of answering more of your questions and we’re already set to meet many of our readers to start the year (yes we vetted the right ones over the past couple of years). We’re guessing it will be more of a calm year for the blog, the good news is that you’ll see more interactions as well. We will also write more on 1) selling online businesses, 2) crypto currencies and 3) investing/traveling.

On that note for 2018, we hope you stay in and plan your year like we do. Our annual New Years Eve looks the same so we suggest reading the post. To cap it all off, if you have last second suggestions for the book feel free to drop them in the comments and we may tack on a few special paragraphs and have the Editor scream at us on Tuesday!

  1. Other than coding, mining, investing in coins, running exchanges, what other ways of money making can you think of in the crypto space? As an example, in the real estate space, there’s property development, investing in REITs, running Airbnbs, being a landlord, flipping properties or realty shares.

    1. Selling people on how much money they can make with crypto (as long as they join your exclusive club for only 1 BTC/month!), teaching people about crypto, arbitrage, etc

  2. Glad you’re starting to talk about crypto. The more I delve into it the more It can be a game changer like the internet was. Media seems to just say it’s a superfluous currency on the web with no real value. They say it keeps going up for no reason and is all speculation…right..

It seems most of my time this year was spent on failures after reading Efficiency. Maxing retirement accounts makes the number grow bigger (HSA, IRA, 401k, etc) but offers no cash flow.

Killing it at work this year, but it seems like it’s not that hard when the competition is downright non-existant. Otherwise goal for 2018 is starting multiple income streams.

Here’s to a new and beter year WSPBs nowhere to go but up from here.

  3. Business and investing are moving targets, but usually whoever bets first on something not popularized will make a killing. (E.g bitcoin, tech companies, presidency prediction)

What is your prediction on emerging industries coming in the next 5 years?

  4. Thank you WSPs for helping me get through the most mentally tough parts of my journey the past couple years.
What you teach shaped much of my approach to the path.
Re read your posts so much because it’s so important to focus on the driving principles and you put the principles of life success in such a clear and direct manner.
I am so grateful to you.
Built an 8 figure biz from 0 in 2017.
The real test is repeating that in 2018.
Who needs luck when you have WSPs? 🙂

Btw will be in LA in Jan.. would you happen to around?

    1. Hey man I’d like to start somewhere. How did WSP get you started with your biz? Can you point me to the right sources so that I can take it from there?
      Thanks,
      Y

  5. Does it have a section on crypto trading?

I understand it’s high-risk given the volatility and the “HODL – set it and forget it” strategy will probably be best long-term, however I just can’t help the fact that there’s so much fast cash to be made if you have 5-figures in liquid capital to play with (from your online businesses).

I know several people in my space who did ecom/affiliate marketing and now they’re day-trading crypto full-time. Do you think it’d be more efficient to use that time building more online income sources and dollar-cost averaging back into crypto? Or can trading be a viable strategy?

  6. Planning the new year, reading a fantastic book, and looking forward to Triangle Investing’s release on Jan 8.

It looks like 2018 will be an amazing year!

One question, will you accept Bitcoin as payment for the new book?

  7. Glad to know risk-on sees success in this blog!

Always have been risk averse and after planning, decided on taking a relatively huge risk in 2018 that will cost me maybe 2 years of my life.

If the project succeeds everybody will want to meet me and I retire… if not I’m moving up on the sales ladder!

Year’s looking good already since I made the commitment if I fail I’ve still got a safety net.

    Happy new year everyone!

  8. I may have already mentioned this in another comment, but I think it would be valuable to crypto noobs if there was a section about using hard wallets and other methods of keeping your coins safe and tracking one’s portfolio performance. Phone apps, secure passwords, two factor authentication, Blockfolio, setting up a stand-alone PC for storage, etc. It was hell trying to figure a lot of it out. Fortunately my cousin is a leading cyber security specialist in Canada so he was able to provide lots of valuable feedback.

I think a section on how cryptos are taxes will also be helpful, especially with tax season right around the corner.

I have five figures invested in the crypto space and have done rather well. I’m curious to see what advice you have to help get me to a million much more quickly.

I’ll be buying at least one copy when it releases. Very much looking forward to it.

I’m excited about the Q&A’s. It’s nice having you guys accessible considering how hard it is to find solid advice on the web these days.

  9. Really excited for the new book and the year ahead.

Loved reading efficiency, thanks for all of your work!

On twitter you mentioned that there would be opportunities for people from the blog to meet one another, will that be world wide or just the USA?

  10. Hey guys,

Cheers to 2018. I was in a bar last night in Boston (alone) waiting for a train back to the suburb I grew up in, and I found it almost appalling how much people care about New Years. Why do the masses get so amped up about the change of a single day? Same thing goes for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Oh well; smile, nod, and agree.

Anyways, can’t wait to read the investing book. As I start my buy-side role in July out of undergrad, I can’t wait to fuse the knowledge of institutional investing with the personal investing information in your forthcoming book. Really just trying to make deca-millions before 30, maybe even 25!

Let me know if you guys are ever in the Tampa Bay area, would love to play a round and discuss further.

    All the best,
    $Train

  11. Looking forward to what 2018 will bring, and the new book. Will there be anything in regards to if it would be worth wild to buy some physical gold as well in the form of 1oz coins krugerrand or similar as part of the portfolio? Also is there anything to watch out for with the petroyuan in 2018?

      1. if investing in military complex and prisons isn’t part of your strategy your doing it wrong.

  12. Cash:

How much cash, if any, you put first in an emergency fund before making portfolio? I hear emergency fund should be 6 months living expense, but what do you recommend?

How much cash if any you keep on hand (after emergency fund) to start new businesses?

In portfolio how much cash do you keep for when big crashes happen in the three triangle areas?

At what levels do you stop investing in triangle areas and go to cash instead? (Are prices ever too high?)

  13. Looking forward to your next book. I will be revisiting Efficiency before I read this next one. 7 days. I am interested in becoming more involved in your Q&A and get your take on creatives. You spoke some about it in Efficiency. I am a creative and I’m getting ready to launch 1 or 2 ecommerce stores this month and possibly purchase a 3rd. All having to do with art/design. Thanks for changing my perspective so abruptly, I began reading your blog late one night and was a different man the next day.

  14. Just something I remembered from reading Efficiency

On some of the pages the text was a dark grey instead of black which I found difficult to read at times, I realise the book is only days from release but if it were possible to maintain a stark contrast I and I’m sure many others would really appreciate it.

    Thanks fellas

  15. I hate making the same comment over and over but.. I feel like I have to. I find myself fleeing to smaller and smaller corners of the internet to talk to people who actually know anything about money, investing, and finance. I cannot count the amount of stupid and poor advice I’ve received in the past two months of bonus season. The same can be said for advice on how to make more money. Very few people get it.

I can’t imagine how many times the WSPs must smile and nod on a daily basis.

  16. Been a reader since high school…now graduating college in the spring to work in M&A at an EB in NYC. Your blog proved invaluable during these years.

Just wanted to give thanks, and I am looking forward to the next book.

  17. I bought both Efficiency and Triangle Investing, but both PDF’s are unreadable on my Sony Reader device, can’t convert to EPUB either as the quality of the text is really bad.
Is this some kind of anti-piracy format or I am the only person having this issue?

  18. I read Efficiency and it was great.

But I have to admit that I’m reading “Triangle..” for the second time today and I’m making notes for further research like I’m in my academic years.

  19. As a guy who works on one of the third gen cryptocurrency projects, I have to disagree with the conclusions you’ve drawn in the triangle investing ebook.

Bitcoin’s development team is fraught with drama and dysfunction, and most of the productive developers have left for other projects like Basecoin, Skycoin, Hashgraph, etc. The coin itself is a bloated mess right now, and our team chat is full of horror stories about the lightning network project. Bitcoin is probably the riskiest HODL on your list with the least upside ROI.

  20. As you have said doing nothing all day after being fin. independent is boring right? Suppose you have found what it is you would like to preoccupy yourself with and you have alot of passion for it, it was something you were naturally drawn to and have a pretty good amount of talent but its not financially lucrative (academia, STEM field). Do you believe it would still make sense to chase financial independence in expense of your dream ?

    1. Not sure what you mean, if you don’t care about money and it’s not lucrative go for it.

If you care about money, you’re wasting your time chasing stuff that won’t make you any money.

Self explanatory and not something we can answer for you. Once you are rich you can do any activity you want.
